Missionary activities of CC BEREAThe four decades of communist regime in Czechoslovakia left their mark in the life and ministry of the church. One area deeply affected even today is the attitude to world mission. We got used to being passive. We still think that mission is the task of the „rich“ Christians from the hard currency countries. The Brethren movement has always been characterised by an evangelistic zeal and its contribution to world mission exceeds its numerous strength. You would not find much of it here... so far. Christian Centre BEREA considers supporting missionary activities to be one of its priorities. We hope that by God's grace the missionary mindset of the Christian assemblies will be awakened. We would like to contribute to it by spreading information about mission (e.g. in the newsletter Perspektiva) and specific prayer requests and support of missionary projects as much as we are able. Last but not least, the annual missionary conferences, organised in Modra since 2001 help us to reach these goals. Missionary conferences

11. missionary conference took place in Modra-Harmónia. Our guests were Marian Pawlas, an elder of a vibrant Brethren church in Palowice, Poland, and Meinolf Mellwig, German missionary serving in Ostrava, Czech Republic.

The conference was held uder the motto Your feet fitted with the readiness of the gospel of peace. Our main guest was Siegfried Beecken from the Wiedenest Mission Centre in Germany, as well as Jan Veldhuizen from the Netherlands and a Christian counsellor Lubos Lacho. We also heard testinonies of brothers and sisters who were serving short-term in the countries of Nepal, Zambia and Brazil.

We experienced a blessed time at the conference with the motto We are the Aroma of Christ (2Co 2:15) and international guest speakers. Gerd Goldmann is the leader of the Wiedenest Mission House and Bible School. Miruska Cmelik works with the Child Evangelism Fellowship in Montenegro. On Monday, November 17th there was a seminar for active church workers with the topic: What do the assemblies need today, led by br. Goldmann.

The last conference with the motto Reach the World with the Word of God is over. It was a weekend full of memorable encounters, testimonies and challenging messages from God's Word. We were addressed by the international guests. Ieremia Rusu from Romania spoke about the Brethren churches and their evangelistic vision. These churches belong to the most numerous in Europe, their numbers doubled after the fall of communism. Meinolf Mellwig, a German missionary serving in Ostrava, Czech Republic, reminded us of the urgent need of sharing the gospel instead of relying on big events. Jan Veldhuizen from a growing church in Enschede, the Netherlands, spoke about the necessary conditions for the healthy growth of a church.
